Cloves are not the common purple lilac seen in China but are the dried flower buds of the tropical and subtropical plant Syzygium aromaticum, resembling nails in appearance, hence the name. Cloves taste pungent and have a warm nature. They are attributed to the spleen, stomach, lung, and kidney meridians, with the effects of warming the middle and descending rebellious qi, as well as warming the kidney and assisting yang, mainly used to treat various conditions caused by spleen yang deficiency and kidney yang deficiency.
Cloves can treat stomach pain, abdominal pain, chest pain, belching, vomiting, and loss of appetite caused by spleen yang deficiency, as well as impotence and hernia pain caused by kidney yang deficiency.
It's important to note that cloves should not be paired with Realgar, as they have a contraindication and may cause toxic side effects.
